Cheltenham Ladies' College is favourable amongst mum and dad

Yes, yes. It's true.
My so thought "last choice" of boarding school is my parent's FIRST.

Well, my opinion's changed slightly because I mean, it is a lovely college and the girls are reallyy nice and all. It's just so...green. I know that their school colour is green, but there really is too much green. Really. Not joking :P

Anyway, I saw my friend, ELLEN, who goes to that school. It was only for a brief second because she had to rush off to a wilderness camp or something like that, but it was a very NICE brief second full of big smiles and frantic(..is frantic the word?) waving. :)

It was really very fun.

Really.

The school didn't have rolling fields of green like the other boarding schools, but the SCHOOL itself was really nice :)

Then there's the fact that the boarding houses are OFF campus which my mum is a little worried about. Then, there is the sports complex that is about a 15 minutes walk (that's far > . <) and the gym like the work out gym in that public sports complex smells disgusting.

Anyway, my mum still loves it because of the really nice atmosphere and the support that the teacher give to the students. I personally think it's okay and the rooms are pretty big and decent but ALL GIRLS. Come on... :(

Anyway, it has risen up in my own personal ranks but I'm a little bit confused about whether I really like any of them or in which particular order.

I'll decide later when I get a plave at all of them :P

HAHAH.

Well, Cheltenham was the last of the boarding schools that I'll visit and it's been hell of a ride. It's been an amazing experience.

Really. ;)

I'm a "must have" at Wellington College

Ok. So I've kind of gotten a tad bit tired of writing these boarding school entries so I'm just going to be very brief.

Basically, I visited Wellington College with quite an open mind because last september, I was interviewed by the registrar of Wellington College at the Island Shangri-la Hotel in Hong Kong and I really liked him. Really nice, people was because they were there either for an academic scholarship interview or a music schorlarship performance AND the interview.

Guess what?? I tried for the music scholarship.

I don't know. I thought that I pretty much nailed the interview, but I have to say, the actual playing was a little less to be desired. I mean, I think my piano playing was pretty darn good but the violin was kind of crap...Then there were the Aural tests that went pretty well except that when the auditioner, Mr. Williamson, played a note and asked me what note it was I said F sharp when it was an A. :S Yeah I know. That's really bad. BUT yeah...

ANYWAY. I saw the school. The grounds are really nice, really close to the train station, the common rooms are gorgeous, but the rooms are TINY. :( YEAH. They are like..CUBIBLE tiny.

They're THAT SMALL.

REALLY.

Anywayyy. At the end of the tour, I talked to guess who?? None other than the registrar and my mum was like: Oh hi there! We met you in Hong Kong last September!

And I was like...oh yeahhhh...I remember now. Music scholarship..oh hell no..I hope he doesn't criticise me and say my playing was really crap because the competition was way keen. I heard other Hong Kong kids play and they were amazing.

BUT NO.

He said. OMG! (Well, not quite like that) Are you the really good pianist?

And I was like..yeah...? :P

Then he flips through his registrar file and says: Come over here.

And I'm like flipping out on the inside as I walk over.

I look at the page he points too and there my name is with the BEST COMMENT ever. It sayssss: Brilliant student. Vibrant, shows lots of potential. A must have.

I was like...HOLY CRAP!!! :DDD I nearly did the happy dance that I did when I found out that I got a 7 for science. But I didn't of course. :P

I mean, Wellington College is no sevenoaks, but it is still a VERYY well known boarding school here in England.

Anyway, he showed me THIS year's exam papers (the one I'll be doing) ;) and they were actually pretty easy. He says that he's not really supposed to show me them but I've pretty much got the place anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Then at the end of it all he goes: Do you want to try for the music scholarship again, because I talked to Mr. Williamson last time and he really was very pleased with your playing. You have a VERY good chance of getting the scholarship.

So then, my impulsive sort of character came in and I was like.."Yeah. Sure. Why not?" HAHA

So yeah....I've pretty got that College nailed down.

WITH a music scholarship too. Pretty damn awesome huh ;)

We've got a little bit of a rat problem.

So, the other night, my dad insisted that he saw a rat in the house.

It was during the night time and no one saw it but him.

So, everyone - including me - was pretty freaked out a little. Me least of all though. I was like: Ew!! Gross. Then I kind of got over it. I mean, come on. It's a rat and according to dad, it was about hamster size. Whatever, man. I mean, if it crawled over me then YES I would scream but I couldn't even see it, or any traces of it for that matter.

So it's been agood few days since my dad first found the rat and to be quite honest with you, I don't think it exists. My dad said he saw it on the middle floor and that that is where it resides, but I think that that's bull. I mean, the middle floor is also the TV floor and I'm not going to not watch TV just because of a little mouse, so of course, I went and watched TV along with my cousin, Jonathan and my sister. It's all fine. I mean, nothing happened. I couldn't hear a rat moving, I couldn't see any traces of the mouse like droppings or chewed up stuff or anything. NOTHING.

So my conclusion is that DAD, you're imagining things and that the RAT IS IMAGINARY. OK??

I really hope I'm not proved wrong ;P

LOL

Umbrellas @ Sevenoaks

Hallo! :D

So today, I visited the elitest boarding school of all boarding schools. Well, IB anyways. As you could probs have guessed from the title, YES! It's Sevenoaks School.

Now I can tell straight off from the start that I was quite intimidated by coming to this school.  I mean,  this is Sevenoaks. So many urban myths (or probably not so urban) that go something like "Oh, Sevenoaks only takes the top 1% of Hong Kong's brightest" or something like that. You know, Sevenoaks has a MASSIVE reputation and EVERYONE wants to go. It's like. You get in, and it's almost like a guaranteed place at Oxbridge you know?

Here's an analogy for you English fans. :P

Sevenoaks is to Boarding Schools reputations, what Oxbridge is to University reputations.

You know? It's like that elite. It may not be one of those RIDICULOUSLY FAMOUS public schools like Eton, Charterhouse, Harrow and all those, but it still has HELL of a reputation.

But yeah. I met with the head of the Girl's International House, which is the 6th form boarding house for girls at Sevenoaks and it was really nice. :) My mum didn't like it much, although goodness knows why!! It's probably because my mum really is biased towards rooms that don't have showers. I mean, the rooms themselves were amazing, but unlike Charterhouse, they didn't have their own showers and stuff. Oh well. I mean, the showers were really clean and really not that bad :)

They had guitar hero in the common rooms! :DDD

Pfft. Don't look at me like that. Guitar Hero counts for a lot, ok?

So anyway. After a tour of the school which was quite nice, but not as nice as Charterhouse, I had a meeting with Mr. Waldron. Again, I don't know if that's how you spell it, but that's what it sounded like. :P

And he told me about the admissions process and the entrance exams and everything. You know, the way these entrance exams are set out, where the questions are built to test your academic potential and aren't just straight forward answers might really suit me! :D You know, I actually might have a chance!!

Well. I mean, I don't want to kid myself. BUT I really might have a chance. I just really have to work on my maths for the numeracy test (WHY??? :( Do they WANT to make my life miserable??) and I'll  be good. I can pretty much wing the rest because they'll all be in subjects that I'm pretty good at to say the least ;)

Anyway, It kind of rained on and off. REALLY heavily and then drizzling, then not. Then REALLY heavy, then not and so on...

Okay. I can't really concentrate on this blog entry because I'm watching Little Shop of Horrors so I'm going to end this entry here by saying that I'll definitely be doing some maths and hopefully I'lol be able to get into Sevenoaks.

Oh. AND PS: There's this academic agency in Hong Kong that apparently does entries to all these elite schools like Charterhouse and Sevenoaks and stuff and my mum just got an email saying that they want me to take the maths test there as soon as I get back to Hong Kong. Now. Last time I gor 31% or something like that so I'm not exactly keen on doing it again but I have to do it for Charterhouse. :( Sevenoaks they asked me to apply directly to them, but Charterhouse is strictly Academic Asia and if I don't at least get 85% or over, they won't even give me an interview with them which would SUCK. Like. REALLY. So I have to REALLY study while I'm here in London. Eurgh..Fun..

Okay. Gonna go now.

No boarding school visits tomorrow so that's all good. Time to do maths. HAHA. I hope. :P

Bye!

Spoons with surprise interviews, Haileybury School

Hi there :)
So I didn't have time to blog the other day because I went to the open EVENING for Haileybury School and came back really, reallyyy late and just didn't have time. So I'm just going to talk about Haileybury School a little bit before I talk about Sevenoaks.

So I reached Haileybury School at about 5:00 and when the taxi drove into the school the first thing that crossed my mind was, "Wow. That's kind of small."

Well. It was definitely smaller than I expected, but when I stepped through the gigantic double black doors, it revealed very, very lovely quads along with their iconic green domed chapel. It was very charming and very lovely. Also, the fields just on the side of the school were beautiful, even though they weren't expansive.

Anyway, I had a little chat with Mr. Monk (Or that's what it sounded like anyway.) and he was really, really nice. :D Then after we discussed my grades, (which they were really impressed with.. :P) and Mr. Monk was like, "Ok! We're going to have an interview now!" And I was like...great..What is it with English boarding schools and private visits. Just because I couldn't make it to an opening day doesn't mean that you have to give me an interview that I NEVER prepared for because you never told me about it AND so yeah? Right? It's completely uncalled for >:(

Oh well. The interview with Mr. Monk was really lovely :) SO much better than the 1 hour grilling that I had at Malvern College. Eurghh... >:( Now THAT was mean. The boarding schools did really seem to like me though. Both Malvern AND Haileybury. ;)

OK. So about the part of the title with the spoons. So the Haileybury School interview really only consisted of 2 questions.

1. What's your favourite book?
*He asks this question to all the students he interviews*
To which I answered (Not exactly, but around the same lines): Well, that's a hard question. I have always been interested in books and words since I was really small, but I was never really inspired to read all by myself. Then I saw this little boy with glasses reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or something like that and it was this think and I thought, I want to be able to do that. So the first real books I've ever read were mostly Enid Blyton books at the time, but after that, I tried Harry Potter and it really gave me a completely new scope on how I viewed books. I'd just wolf down these Harry Potter books. Harry Potter would probably have to be the book that has impacted me the most in terms of how it's inspired me to read and write and it really helped me to cultivate a love for reading and writing in general. However, I feel that the best book that I've read is actually "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. That book was pure genius.

2. What is the most interesting thing you could do with a spoon?
*Ok. Now I have to mention that he told me that he's never asked a student this before.*
Ok. So I said something a little strange.: I would bend the spoon into a different shape because you can do that with my cafeteria spoons and it's really interesting to see what you can bend them into.

Well, my answer was a little longer than that, but around the same lines, you know?

So then he talked about how he went to Oxford to study Law and History and how the head dude was like, "How would you go about writing a law to undermine obscenity" or something like that and I was like..WTF??? WHOA. HARD QUESTION. Then Mr. Monk was like no of course you don't need to answer that. HAHA. But I think <--this is him talking. I think that the most interesting thing you could do with a spoon is really really look at it.

DEEP.

AMAZING, this guy. :)

So anyway. I saw Haileybury at it's best. I mean, the sun was shining, the music department was amazing, the teachers were absolutely lovely, everything.

BUT the HUGE PROBLEM about this school is that only about 50 people do the IB which means that there will only be about 6 people AT MOST in my classes and they'reh ALL pretty much international (Mostly German) so since all the Germans will probably stick together. I'll have REALLY little friends because the IB and the A levels basically have a COMPLETELY different time table. Different classes, everything. :S Like I wanted to do Music Higher but although I'd probably be able to get a music scholarship fine, I don't really fancy having a private lesson with the teacher, which is what it would be like because there are so few people doing IB, and even fewer doing Music at Higher Level. I mean, it's not like I have anything against it other than the lonely part because I am quite a sociable person.

So...I guess it's bye bye Haileybury? IDK. I mean, I LOVE it. I really do, but...:( The IB conditions are definitely not ideal.. :( Hopefully more people will do it? I still might consider Haileybury though!

Malvern College and House no.8 and more dessert

Hi there ;)
How was YOUR day? :D

So basically, I went to visit Malvern College today. Ok. So..6 hours of a train. That CANNOT be healthy. HAHA. Lalala. Okay. So I'm going to talk about about the school and then compare it to Charterhouse.

Okay. First of all, Malvern is about a few hundred some years old and when I first saw Malvern, I was amazed by the stone floor and the amazing landscape of rolling, irridescent greenery. It was like a typical boarding school, but on a massive scope. It was really quite big.

Then I met the registrar who grilled me for about an hour. Why?? I wasn't under the impression that I was supposed to be interviewed!!! I didn't prepare for it AT ALL. Luckily I kind of new what to say. That's me. Winging everything that comes my way...haha.

Then after all the interviews and stuff my family and I were given a tour of one of the girl's houses. This was House number 8 and the gardens were ridiculously big. The rooms weren't as nice as Charterhouse though... Pretty dismal and they have to share showers too. It's not ideal but still it was clean and it does have the potential to be homey. The lobbey and basement and gardens ARE really nice though and the houses look amazing from the outside. Really old and castle-y. It's great. :) The buildings are quite nice, the main school especially. I think that it's quite nice though.

Then I had lunch with a couple of the girls in that house. It was really nice. There was curry, REALLY big grains of rice, naan bread and jelly and a banana to top it all off. It was really nice. The girls there were really nice. What WAS funny though was that on my table, there was a girl from the Philippines, Shanghai, two from France, one from Spain and only one from England. STRANGE right?? I mean, in Charterhouse, EVERYONE was English and there were only 5 to 10 Asians in the entire school and here it's like a majorly international place brimming with Asians and such.

So then I talked to the head of 6th form who grilled me for about 45 minutes on subject choices and future careers and stuff and the whole time I was like...what??? I don't know. But OH WELL. :)
Then it was back on the train for another 3 hours and then a cab back home and I just had a lovely dinner of duck, gravy and new potatoes, but DESSERT was the best part! :D

It was...

Rasberry vanilla cheesecake, with a biscuit bottom, loads of rasberries, blueberries, strawberries and served in a cup. I don't have an exact picture, but it looked something like this..

Ok. No I can't find a picture. K. Bye!! :D

Of Brick Lane (The Movie), Brocas Close, Curly Wurly Cake and Boarding Schools

So. As you can judge from the title, alot of things have been happening.

First of all, this was longer ago, and before the previous post which was about my reports, my English teacher was away and he had set up a class plan. This class plan was to continue watching Brick Lane the Movie which we had started watching in the previous class. Basically, we were ablet o watch about 30 minutes in the previous class and it actually wasn't too bad. I was like, yeah, I could do this. THEN the sub teacher put on the movie and I was about 20 minutes into it before I started squirming. Then, the squirm turned into sitting on my uncomfortable plastic chair in different ways, trying to find the most comfortable way of sitting, then I just got fed up and stole the teacher's chair and then lastly, ecause I simply couldn't take any more of it, I slept.

SERIOUSLY. To the movie makers of Brick Lane: I appreciate that you cut out the 200 pages of Nazneen cooking and cleaning, but you could have had a better cast. The only good actors on the show were Karim and Chanu and maybe, Shahana. HOWEVER. Despite the fact that you cut out 200 pages of cooking an cleaning, it was still rather horrible. I FELL ASLEEP. I actually nearly cried because it was so damn BORING. However, you aren't to blame. To be quite frank actually, you did the best you could with the most horrible book in the history of the universe so hats off to you.

OK. Now my rant's over. I'd like to tell you about the present. :)

So. I'm in my cousin's house on his tinyyyy laptop typing this entry while trying to write my book @ tehe same time. BASICALLY. The house is in Brocas Close, hence the second part of the title. My family has the house right next door so I'll be going there some time later to sleep and shower and stuff. Yeah. So anyway. My cousin, uncle and sister are making this huge ass crane truck lego thing that my cousin gave my uncle for father's day. It really is very awesome. :)

So I'm in London right now and I just had dinner about half an hour ago and that brings us to the third part of this blog entry's. THE CURLY WURLY Cake. So. What is a Curly Wurly Cake?

<---Yeah. That's it. Go on. Drool :) It's chocolate cake with Vanilla Bean Icing. It really is very yummy.

NOTE the curly wurlys on the top of the cake :D

So anyway.... :)

The cake was amazing, but kinda sweet. Had to drink 2 glasses of water after. haha. :)

OK. Lastly, before I go writing my book again. I'm going to talk about boarding school. So. I visited Charterhouse yesterday and let me just tell you. It was PROPERLY AMAZING. 200 acres of pure awesomeness. First of all, it's steeped in RICH RICH history. It's frickin 400 years old and they have fireplaces in the common rooms and the dining hall looked like the Great Hall from Harry Potter. OH but that's not the best part. The music hall looks like the bloody CHAMBER OF SECRETS and it's amazing. People there are really nice and there is soo much to do. Tennis, swimming cricket, frolicing in the rolling green pastures that are ridiculously abundant in number in this lovely school :) DEFINITELY my first choice.

2 problems though. They don't offer chinese as a second lanugage which would mean that I would have to learn Italian. From scratch D: THEN there is also the fact that IB will only be introduced next year so I will be the second year so it's a little bit of a risk going there.

http://www.charterhouse.org.uk/     <----Check out their webiste. DO IT NOW. The school looks like HOGWARTS ok???? :)))

Well...I guess that brings me to a close.

Visiting Malvern College tomorrow.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY and yeah. I'll be writing my book now....if I can be bothered. MAJOR writer's block or rather, lacking passion... :( NEED that vibe!!!

Any suggestions for how I can get over writer's block or just general comments? Hit the comment button below and tell me! :)

Love you all.

Reports and Dinners

Right. So I've just finished dinner and it was just some really awesome Indian food with vegetables and red rice. It was really good. WELL OKAY. So I'm NOT actually here to talk about my dinner despite the fact that it was pretty darn good :P

I'm actually here to talk about reports! So the system that my school follows is MYP (which is the WORST grading system in the ENTIRE WORLD because you don't learn anything but how to bullsh**) Basically, all you do in MYP is reflect, reflect and REFLECT. Even in a subject like PE, where people would be traditionally graded on how good you are at athletics or baseball, we'tr graded according to how good your PE essays and reflections are. Messed up or what??!! Yeah, I'm sure the people who aren't good at PE are thrilled but the rest, like me, are not. Eurgh.

Yeah. Anyway, for those of you who don't know what the grading system is like, it's kind of like IB where all subjects are out of 7.

So this is the grade "calculator" for if you do IGCSEs or the American System
7 = A+/A*
6 = A
5 = B
4 = C
3 = D
2 = E
1 = F
0 = FFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

And this is what I got last semester:
English: 6
Chinese: 5
Maths: 6
Science: 5
Drama: 6
Music Extended: 7
Computer Technology: 7
PE: 6
Geography: 6

And this is what I got THIS semester:
English: 6
Chinese: 5
Maths: 6
Science: 7
Music Core: 6
Music Extended: 7
Computer Technology: 7
PE: 6
Geography: 6

AGHDSIUGHAIUGHAIUHGOISJFA:OIWJR:OIAWJRUIHRUI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Y#Q(*&@)Q$*Q(WUR)(WQYTFUWAHFYF*(SU!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's ALL As and A*/A+s. HELL YES. ;)

And of course my only B is Chinese...pfft. HAHAHA. Oh wellllllll.

So yeah...BE HAPPY because I GOT GOOD GRADES. LOL.

The Ian Somerhalder Foundation and Homework

Hey. :)

So I'm doing my homework right now (which I have  RIDICULOUS tonne of because my teachers thought they'd be reallyyy nice and push deadlines further and further back until EVERYTHING is due in the last few weeks of school. Hmm..gotta love my teachers because now I'm DROWNING in homework) and I was thinking that I probably wasn't going to have any time to blog today. But then I was thinking, you know what? Blogging only takes a few minutes and it really wouldn't be doing all my @isf_hongkong followers any justice if I didn't so I was like, "screw homework and geography reports, I'll do this first." So yeah. That's what I'm doing right now.

Anyway. To all you awesome ISF people following me, I LOVE YOU. Really. I do. You guys are so amazing and just the passion and the drive that you all have to try and save this environment really, really shows. :) You know, it all starts off with the little things, like telling your friends to recycle. Or just car pooling with someone, or having a bake sale at school to help raise money for a conservation organisation. It's all these little things that grow and grow.

Most importantly though, I really want to thank Ian Somerhalder for giving us, dare I say it, slightlyy smaller people a voice. He's really inspired me and SOOO many people across the GLOBE to really start to care about the environment, to really spark up a passion in youth, the future generation, to do something about this beautiful earth that we're destroying. It's amazing. Really.

Next off, I'd like to thank Kim Klingler for really making the Ian Somerhalder Foundation a reality. Really. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I'm in my first year at high school and already, do I feel this spark of passion, this sort of...purpose, you know? This drive that really makes me want to do something. Saving the environment is so detrimental to our survival, it's INSANE. I mean, it's a no-brainer right? No earth, no us.

So thank you, ISF family, and to Devon Haas, for being an inspiration to us all.

Back to homework :P

Feel free to donate:  http://www.isfoundation.com/give
and http://www.conservation.org/give/Pages/donate.aspx too! ;)
